Team Rules for Marianapolis Wrestling

Attendance
1. You are expected to be at practice from 4:00 to 5:30 Monday through Friday. We will also have some practices on Saturdays when we do not have meets or tournaments. You are expected to be prompt for practice. Lateness will be dealt with severely.
2. Unexcused absences will be deal with harshly and can cause a wrestler to lose varsity status or not wrestle in a meet. Absence can only be excused by a teacher note. Telling a fellow wrestler that you will not be at practice will be unexcused. Excessive unexcused absences will result in being removed from the team. There are too many people who want to be there for me to worry about people who do not.
3. You may not participate in other sports or activities that will force you to regularly miss practice and competitions. Wrestling is a sport where every person must pull his own weight. If we can not count on you, you should not participate.
4. Wrestling competitions are almost always on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Make sure your other commitments do not fall on those days.
Making Weight
1. When you commit to making a weight you MUST make it. If you can not make that weight you MUST tell the coach the day before any competition. Your failure to make weight dramatically impacts the others on the team. It is your responsibility to make weight.
2. You must weigh yourself before and after every practice. Failure to do so will jeopardize your place on the team.
The Wrestling room
1. NO nonwrestling SHOES on the mat at any time.
2. The wrestling room is YOUR ROOM. Treat it with respect. If there is trash around, pick it up. If there are clothes laying around after practice, pick them up.
3. Make sure the room is clean and tidy at the end of every practice.
Wrestling equipment
1. You must purchase wrestling shoes which are only to be worn in the wrestling room and at competitions. If the coach sees wrestlers wearing wrestling shoes outside the punishment will be severe. The dirt you track back into the wrestling room ends up on all of us. Look in the Links page to see where you can buy shoes – or you can buy them at a local sporting goods store.
2. You will need to wear wrestling headgear during all live drills during practice. Make sure you have your headgear with you at practice. We can give these out to you before the season or you can purchase your own. Online is your best bet for purchasing your own.
3. You must wear clean shirts and shorts to practice daily. Make sure they get washed before they make it back for another practice.
4. If you have braces on your teeth, you must wear a mouth guard that covers the braces. If you have top and bottom braces you must cover both top and bottom teeth.
Wrestling Meets and Tournaments
1. ALL team members are expected to attend all meets.
2. You are expected to wear school uniform appropriate clothing to all away meets. Bring your uniform, headgear, shoes and warm ups in a bag. Not a plastic bag from the grocery store.
3. You are expected to be on time for all meets. If you are late you hurt all members of the team. Lateness will be dealt with harshly.
4. Home meets require all wrestlers to setup and break down the mats and chairs.  Do not make me have to ask.
5. Some tournaments will be optional for all wrestlers. I encourage all wrestlers to attend but due to bus space this may not be possible. Coaches have the final say on who attends.
